Edward Montanaro

• Associate Professor of Modern Languages and Economics

Professor Edward Montanaro began teaching at Carthage in 2006, upon completion of a doctorate in Spanish at Florida State University. He also holds a master's degree in Spanish from Florida State University. His doctoral dissertation deals with the writings of 19th century Cuban poet and independence leader Jose Marti­.

Prior to earning a doctorate in Spanish, Prof. Montanaro earned master's and bachelor's degrees in economics from Florida Atlantic University and worked as a research economist for 25 years. He served for 16 years as the Director of Economic and Demographic Research for the Florida Legislature, where he was in charge of economic, caseload and revenue forecasting and directed numerous policy studies. He also served as chief economic advisor to Governor Bob Graham of Florida and the Executive Director of the Legislature's Advisory Committee on Intergovernmental Relations.

He holds a joint appointment in Modern Languages and Economics, and is the Director of Carthage's Target Language Expert Program.
