Professor Ben DeSmidt's interests in classics center on the Latin language and literature, and more broadly on the influence of ancient legal thought on the origins of the novel. He earned his B.A. from the University of Chicago, and his M.A., M.Phil and Ph.D. from Columbia University. He joined the Carthage faculty in 2005.
