Bonnie Flessen earned a Ph.D. with distinction in Biblical Studies (New Testament) from the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago. While at LSTC, she also earned a Master of Theology degree and won the Marshall Fellowship and Krentz Prize for excellence in biblical interpretation. She holds a Master of Divinity degree from Wartburg Theological Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa, and graduated summa cum laude from Carthage, where she won the Creativity and Research prize.
Her research interests include the interpretation of New Testament texts with regard to gender, Roman military history, and the book of Acts. Her dissertation on Acts 10 integrates a variety of disciplines and approaches, including narrative criticism, gender studies, and the relationship of Acts to the Roman empire.
She first taught at Carthage in 1996. Her courses include Gospels & Acts, Understandings of Religion, Women & the Bible, and Letters of the New Testament.
